Last Day in DC

This morning we headed to the Natural History Museum. Mimi and Boppa met us there while the rest of the clan did the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

We started in the sea life section.
Sea cucumbers are weird.

The long-awaited Titano Boa.

As much as they anticipated the moment, the kids were not as impressed as I expected.

To my surprise, their favorite room was the fossil/rock exhibit.
A meteorite you can touch!

 Giant geodes.

You can touch this one!

Abby with the Hope Diamond.

They also really liked the insect zoo.

Here they are being termites.

Abby is checking out the bees that fly from the outside world into the museum's beehive.  Too cool.

Isaac spent a large chunk of his souvenir money on a bug-themed activity kit. (He looks tired to me.  Since he was awake until mid-night last night, this is not too surprising.  He had a nap in the car on the way back to Aunt Cindy's and he will have an early bedtime tonight.  Poor baby!)

Abby, contributed to her sweetness-quotient by purchasing a free-dried "polar bear" ice cream.

One of the books from Isaac's kit was a "how to draw bugs" book.

We headed home by mid-afternoon and spent the rest of the day hanging out with the family, cooking, doing laundry, packing, and relaxing.  We even found time for a family reunion photo. Lagoys, Sharps, Hudsons, and a clan of Dufilhos.
