Long Day

Should'a been a five hour drive.

First hour / 8:30-9:30am.

First stop: while the Dufilhos dropped Matt at the airport, we stopped at a park nearby or playtime (and potty break).

Second hour / 9:30-10:30am.
Second stop: Gas (and potty break).

Third hour / 10:30-11:30am.

My kids had just fallen asleep when one of the other cars announced an unplanned potty stop and we decided to picnic for lunch.  Sorry kids.

Fourth hour / 11:30-12:30pm.

And then Robin's van wouldn't start.

Third stop: car shop to have Robin's battery checked.  Turns out the battery is okay, but the starter is dead.

Funny thing about kids, they sometimes don't seem to know when they're supposed to be bored and grumpy...

Fifth hour / 12:30-1:30pm.

...especially when they're with their cousins.

So, 5 hours in, we had only been the distance any other road trippers could make in little over an hour.  We decided to do the last three-and-a-half hours in one no-stop run (since Robin's car probably shouldn't stop with a broken starter).

1:30-5:30pm.

We did pull over for a state sign picture - my favorite so far.

5:30pm.

 We arrived at Uncle Tom's!

Time to run wild and free at the most beautiful lake house property.

Isaac enjoyed some space and solitude...

...while the other kids crammed into 2 chairs with cousins Miles and Julian to watch a movie on the iPad.

Robin and Andy, who stopped to get Robin's van a new starter, joined us a few hours later.

Looking forward to enjoying the lake tomorrow!
