We booked a last minute trip to Fredericksburg last week at this cute little historical home called Settlers Crossing. The property has 7 historic cottages. We stayed at the Kusenberger Barn, which we called Snow White's Cottage because it was just so simple and cute.
Every day they brought us pastries, which was the breakfast part of this bed and breakfast.
It was nighttime when we arrived so all my pictures are dark, but you can see how it was decorated with antiques that match the time period of the 1865 barn house.
Abby enjoyed a cinnamon roll before bedtime.
I loved this bath. It was so relaxing soaking in hot water while looking at the old stone walls. It felt like living in a fairy tale.
I want a door like this...hmmm, how to get one?
From the outside the barn house isn't much to look at...it's mostly covered in trees.
The back had a shared lawn with 3 other houses and some old barns and equipment.
This is the back of our home.
Antique finds in the barn.
The property is home to a pony, a donkey, and lots of sheep that all roam freely.
The pony allowed them to pet him until they got too close to his blindside. Then he gave them a little kick to show he wasn't too happy with that. It scared Abby but didn't hurt her. We read later in the Settlers Crossing booklet that this pony is "feisty."
Enjoying local pizza and local wine on our front patio.
This wine was yummy, made locally at Grape Creek Vineyards.
We also had fun trying to capture an image of one of the many hummingbirds that came to our feeder.
Every day, we took the dogs for a walk on the property, which really felt like going back in time.
I made a "no screen time" rule that Isaac wasn't too fond of. But I taught him to play solitaire and he got bored enough without a screen to actually enjoy it.
Now that's good parenting! (hehe)
We also enjoyed a puzzle.
And found fresh local peaches for sale at a roadside stand. Super yum!
It was a small kitchen so each of us used one plate and washed it up when we were done.
I just loved the simplicity. Look at my little Snow White washing dishes!
