Even with Daddy being out of town, the kids were excited to eat outside.
But it didn't take long before we realized that we were COLD.
We stuck it out for a few more minutes and then retreated back indoors. The sky promptly turned dark.
As inspired as I get to do special things for my family, this kind of thing is pretty typical. You know: big effort to set an idea in motion, small return on investment. At least the kids didn't miss the allusion to The Bears' Picnic: "Hey Mom! We're just like the Bears!" "Yeah, but they had rain and mosquitoes and we just have cold!" So we said together as we retreated to the warm house:
"I'll find the perfect place to eat.
I'll find a spot that can't be beat.
The finest spot you've ever seen.
Now that is the kind of place I mean!"
